Kerguelen Island 200 francs 2011 - Kerguelen Island is a possession of France in the Antarctic convergence. As such it tends to be stormy and especially very windy. This wind creates favorable conditions for cross pollination of Kerguelen cabbage, one of the few indigenous plants that grow in the harsh climate. The island is also famous for its feral house cat population, established when some cats were left there by passing sailors. Inbreeding has made these cats evolve somewhat crazily. Island habitation is now generally concentrated around Port de France and its scientific research facilities. American housecat Tazzie is depicted along with the remains of a whaling oil factory. The face of the bill shows R. Labossiere, a Frenchman granted a license to develop his businesses on the island.
